TROPHY TRASH

making ME218 fishtory
Imagine, a day out fishing on the open ocean.
Your line is cast. You feel a sharp tug. Quick, reel, reel, reel!
You imagine the monstrous fish on the end of your line as you battle to reel it it.
Finally! Your catch emerges from the water. Dismayed, you see that your monstrous fish is nothing but a wad of garbage.
the sad truth -  our oceans are riddled with pollutants
More than 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic are estimated to inhabit Earth's oceans, and scientists agree that this number is growing.
For an eco-educational twist on an old time fishing favorite, we developed Trophy Trash.
Come out for a beautiful day of fishing and test your luck!
Will you evade the trash and get a trophy catch?

Watch Alex in action as he tries to catch a trophy fish!

Then, cast your fishing rod.
Your cast level will be registered by an on-board accelerometer.
The strength of your cast will be reflected on the front panel.
A "Power Bar" of LEDs will light up as you cast. Your cast must be strong enough to reach the red LEDs, or else it wasn't successful and you must cast again.

When you have cast hard enough, you will hear a casting sound and the bobber will move across the front panel corresponding to the strength of your cast.
Now one of the Target LEDs will begin blinking. Quick! Align your rod with the LED.
Once the LED stops blinking, your aiming was successful.
Now, reel as quickly as possible before the Target randomly changes.
When the target changes, you must re-aim before you can reel again.
As you successfully aim and then reel, the bobber will be 'reeled' back into the boat.

When the bobber reaches the boat, you will see your catch!
While you were reeling and aiming, a ‘roulette’ wheel would have been spinning.
When the bobber reaches the boat, a drumroll plays and the roulette wheel will stop to reveal your catch.
Was it a beautiful fish or an unfortunate chunk of garbage?
Keep fishing to catch as many items as possible, or until the time runs out.

Time is kept by the state of the sky at the top of the display.
You begin fishing in the day time, but as the game goes on, darkness creeps in.
While the game is in play, a large circle controlled by a servo will rotate behind the display to represent the passing of time. When this background is fully night, a time has run out and the game is over.

And of course, when not in use, the Trophy Trash game switches back to standby mode!
